This Just in from the American Passenger Transportation Association...
In a recent article published by the American Public Transportation Association, the Transit Cooperative Research Program stated that the number one mental stressor for transit drivers for was working in an understaffed workforce (Brennan, S., 2024). This data is a direct correlation to the data our research uncovered where almost 70% of the school bus drivers felt stress after being assigned extra duty due to driver shortages. The corrective actions discussed in the paper were focused on transit drivers and their specific needs. Many of the suggestions mentioned were along the lines of our findings for school bus drivers as well (i.e., proactive recourse versus punitive reactions, driver and management mental awareness training) .
