The Necessity of DRIVERTUDE in Public Education Today

I cannot begin to express the necessity of the DRIVERTUDE platform in today’s passenger transportation industry, and notably in school districts around the country. Think about it. We ask the most important entity in a child’s education, our teachers, to attend post-high school for a minimum of 4 years. Generally, Paraprofessionals (teachers who do not hold a bachelor's degree but do have some college education) are able to sub for a regular teacher or assist in any classroom. But certified teachers are mandated to hold a bachelor’s degree at minimum. There are often state certifications and specialties such as Special Needs Instructors or Counselors will require the equivalent of a master’s degree. And even still, new teachers are watched over by experienced teachers for months upon coming onboard.

Why then do we feel that school bus drivers, the second most important part of a student’s educational development, who usually train for 2-3 weeks to learn how to drive the bus and learn proper state inspection procedures, are somehow ready to transport 75 students in traffic every day?

If you have a child or more than one child, you are aware how challenging it can be to transport them in your personal vehicle. Imagine carrying 7 to 8 times more kids on a school bus at 2:20 in the afternoon after 15 of those kids were given a sugary treat just before they got onto the bus. Need I say more?

Drivertude addresses these sorts of stressors before a driver is allowed behind the wheel. Because addressing a driver’s mental and emotional needs after an accident or incident is simply too late.
